Peter Harrison Announces Run for Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional Seat

Harrison will work to increase domestic spending, reform healthcare, and address climate change

Vancouver, Washington 1 October 2017

Today Peter Harrison, a Democrat, announced he is running for Southwest Washington’s 3rd Congressional District seat. Harrison, a businessman and scientist who has volunteered extensively in the community, says “I will focus on issues that help my neighbors today and work to ‘pay it forward’ so we build a country our children will be proud of tomorrow.”

“We could spend $41B more on healthcare, education, and middle-class tax cuts by limiting our defense budget to twice what China and Russia spend,” says Harrison. “Twice the combined defense budgets of the number two and three world powers is more than enough to keep America safe.”

Harrison says Americans can save money by fixing our healthcare system. “We should get our money’s worth from healthcare. We waste hundreds of billions of dollars on unnecessary paperwork, administrative overhead, and overpriced medication. Other nations with top-ten healthcare systems spend half as much per-person while the United States wastes billions just to reach number 36.”

Harrison cares deeply about climate change and science. “Our sitting Congresswoman voted to stop climate science research and replace government scientists with political appointees,” Harrison warns. “Science and technology made America into a world superpower. De-funding science because science research do not agree with Republican talking points will give that lead to China.”

Harrison, Jamie Herrera Beutler, and other candidates will face off in the August 2018 primary election. The top two vote-getters will continue on to the November general election ballot.
